Just remember that people have different opinions than you do, and usually have decent reasons for those opinions. Nobody has the market share on ideas of what’s good for the country. Not a huge fan of either candidate myself, but really hoping trump takes it over hillary. I’ve never attacked any of you for supporting Hillary, so hopefully, you can keep an open mind and do the same for me. Good luck!

Diversity is a strength. It’s a GREAT thing that we live somewhere that having diverse views is ok.
Whether or not your person won today, you still won by taking part in the process at whatever level you chose to, and living somewhere that you have that option.

I do disagree with your alignment politically, but I have nothing against you personally. Good luck in all this.
Kind of wish it was easier to discuss politics on the internet/with people. I had a roommate who I disagreed with politically, but discussions were always fairly level-headed and we understood the point of views that the other took.

Yeah, but one is a flawed, but competent center left candidate for President, and the other is a psychotic, pathelogical lier who has no idea how to effectively hold the office. So, feel good about that choice.

If you support someone, own up to it. In the real world you’re brought to task for the positions you hold.

I bit my tongue both times Obama was elected and moved on with my life. Doing the same tonight. Politics is never a reason to get hostile.

Wise words. it seems too many people these days are of the mindset that if you don’t think exactly as they do, that you are a terrible person. Not a very healthy way to think, if you want democracy to succeed.

The funny thing is, I literally have no idea which candidate is which in that statement. They’re both about the same, just depends on which ideals you like better.

It is a great thing that we are allowed to vote. And I think this is a right that a lot of Americans take for granted. I will just have to ask..... Why do you feel that he is a better candidate? Why do you trust him with nuclear codes?

Agreed. It’s very difficult to find people who are willing to hold level-headed and intelligent political discourse with. Good to see rational people on both sides.

I try to stay out of political discussion, especially on the internet. People get WAY too upset over it.

It’s the best way to figure out where you stand on things by seeing other opinions and sort of asking yourself why you believe what you do. Critical thinking is an important skill, and being able to change sides or opinions when new evidence is made available is equally important.

They act as if everyone should have the same views as them and if you don’t you’re a “deplorable American”. It’s tiresome. Glad it’s over.
I’ve been against basically everything Obama has done. But I’ve had a mostly happy 8 years personally, so it’s whatever. Move on people.

Hey, I’m glad you’re asking. what’s a democracy if the people can’t have a civil discussion?
As to my answer, I think both candidates are incredibly power hungry. The only reason I trust Trump over hillary Re: nuclear codes is that Trump seems to have pretty good relationships with both Russia and China (the biggest, and really the only threats to national security) it may be a relationship born through shady backroom deals, but I truly don’t think the world would survive a war between the big 3.
Of course, this is if push came to shove, which it probably wouldnt. I also really don’t think either candidate will use the launch codes in their lifetime regardless. Just a little insight into my thought process.

Yep, when you can’t consider another point of view, debating becomes a pissing match, and is rendered useless.

I still haven’t been convinced that his relationships are all that solid... but I’ll leave it at that. also there’s not a large margin with the popular vote which is maybe a good thing.

The gif wouldn’t load, but I assume you are inferring that I am mentally slow.
Way to support a free thinking democracy, and hold intelligent discourse!
As I said in my original post, nobody has all the good ideas. Not me, and not you. Hope you can have a more open mind in the future!

To be honest, I’m not entirely convinced of anything either candidate has said the entire election. it’s all about pandering to get votes, you just have to choose the one you think is better. I will also admit that it is a lot closer than I thought it would be. I thought for sure that Hillary had it in the bag.

I think my biggest issue is how uninformed he at least comes off as. I am also very uncomfortable with how much hatred and bigotry he managed to spout and still get the votes.

I will agree that he says some incredibly unthoughtful things. I also tend to lean left when it comes to social issues. However, I also think we are in such a poor place financially that it’s time to put the social issues (which seems to have been the main focus of the government for the last several years) on the back burner and focus on something else. I think they are issues that need to be addressed, but as a nation we have bigger fish to fry right now.

I tend to not believe we’re in the worst place financially. it’s better than 2008. and he never really laid out any economic plan he just said he had one. given how he leans, it’s most likely going to be trickle down laissez faire type of policy. And we saw how well that did to the economy under Bush and in places like Oklahoma.
Sovereign, Purveyor of Coupes

Yeah, trickle down economics aren’t the answer and I’m not entirely sure of his economic policy myself.
I will say though that we could (and should) be in a much better place financially. I am green with envy the amount of things my parents were able to accomplish in young adulthood that I don’t have the chances to accomplish financially by myself. (parents born in the ‘50s) School tuitions being a big one.
I will also say, that while trump is totally a dick, at least we know where he stands. I feel that its almost impossible to know what hillary is going to do, as she seems to have trouble keeping her stance on issues straight. I feel that she tends to say what she thinks her audience wants to hear at any given point.
As I’ve said before, I think both candidates are very deeply flawed.
